Exclamation LGMD & Stress

Et Al

Hi my name is Mayur, 47 & live in the UK. I have LGMD but do not know which type.

I believe my issues are similar to Mark (Michigani) but a little more advanced with the weakness to my fingers (toes are fine at present).

I have noticed for a number of years now that stress enhances the progression of my weakness in my LGMD and I don't feel this is psychological but a fact.

I'm still working and use a Tailwind wheel chair to zip around as I lost the ability to walk August 2009 due to long term stress. The stress has been on going to date and is now rapidly advancing the speed of my deterioration.

I wanted to know if anyone else has experienced similar deterioration due to stress?

I have also now been diagnosed with vitamin D deficiency but I'm not sure if this is related to the weakening.

Regards

Mayur

Re: LGMD & Stress

Hello there Heidi from Australia 42 just wondered when you were diagnosed with your LGMD? I was diagnosed 2 years ago and at that stage had my own business (stressful) which I gave up last year and feel that without that pressure a relief....interesting too what you say aout the Vitamin D as I have just started taking them 5 days ago to see if they make a difference.....keep in touch.

Re: LGMD & Stress

Hi Heidi

I was diagnosed with LGMG in my early teens.
I have been taking vitamin D for just over a month now, although I feel there is some benefit from taking them. But I am having side affect from taking these causing anxiety attacks and making me very nervous and panicky and thats not good.

I hope this helps, and yes please let me know how they work for you.

Regards

Mayur

Re: LGMD & Stress

Stress does cause me to be weaker. I have a form of Lg called Myoshi which is quite rare and was misdiagnosed a lot. Keep motivating yourself and you can do things longer than specialists suggest.

Re: LGMD & Stress

It's very tricky with a stress. In my case I lost my job over a year ago, levels of stress were extremely high during my last months of work but I believe that the reason for situation causing stress was my LGMD progressing. Now, I don't have much stress since at least one year and haven't seen improvement in the muscle strength but there is big improvement in spirit strenght.
