Have I got MD?

Hi All

I have posted in the general health but thought it might also be an idea to post here.

I am 52 and living in UK.

In the last month I have been experiencing severe aches in the muscles in my pelvic area. I have gone from being able to do substantial 1 - 2 hour long brisk walks to struggling to walk for 10 minutes - all in such a short space of time. Every step I take is painful.

I was diagnosed with Plantar Faciitis about 2 months ago. Inflammation of muscles on the sole of my feet.

My legs (particularly my calves) are swollen.

I have had blood tests and my AST level was raised.

My doctor did an ECG and it showed "right ventricular conduction delay". I have been referred to a heart specialist and am currently wearing an 8 day heart monitor and will have an echocardiogram next week. I also suffer from palpitations off and on all day.

My creatine levels were normal.

The muscles around my eyes ache.

Joints on my thumbs are swollen and painful.

I think I might have LGMD - any thoughts?

I don't want to look like I am totally neurotic in front of my doctor but feel that I should be referred to a neurologist.

Would welcome some advice

Thanks

Wink Re: Have I got MD?

LGMD is a very slowly progressive, it's very difficult to even noticed when you have not been able to run or climb stairs any more. The progression in most forms of adult onset muscular dystrophy is very slow in fact, the later the onset, the slower the progression. On my example I was always not good at running but still could do it for the first 20 years. By the age of about 25 running ability was gone. Then climbing stairs starts to be a problem but I can still do it with little support of my hands. By the age of 26 I was diagnosed with lgmd. I'm nearly 30 now.

I don't know what have you got but it doesn't seem like md at all. More like Polio or something like that but that's just a blind guess. Go to your doctors, it took me 3 years to get diagnosis.
Hope it helps.
