I have been diagnosed with inclusion body myositis - has your mom tried water therapy? They first thought I had polymyositis, but turned out it was not. They said that PM could be treated and even put into remission, but IBM is something no one knows anything about. Since no treatment has been effective, I have started water rehab, 1 hr 3 times a week for the last 2 weeks. I think I can see a little improvement in my walking.
I was falling a lot and had not been able to go up or down stairs, step off a curb, or get out of a chair without a struggle. I think I have probably had this for at least 2-3 years. See if your Mom can do some water therapy, insurances should cover it as mine do. The outlook is not good, but who know what might work - I am being optimistic and with God's help, I am going to stay mobile just as long as I can.
