Re: polymyositis in remission but still having pains

I definitely know the stressful side of the job. I also hope my improvement continues. I am going to choose wisely the field to practice. I am planning to first start per diem and then eventually look for something permanent when i am capable.

Re: polymyositis in remission but still having pains

Hi i was diagnosed with dermatomyositis in 2009. I have been in remission for over a year and off medication since 2010.
Since then i have experienced a fractured spine which led to the diagnosis of osteoporosis due to the steroid treatment. For which i am being treated with daily injections of forsteo.
Although i am thankful to be in remission, i still get pains in my joints and muscles that can make me very tired and make me dread walking long distances. It seems to be so much worse recently, possible due to the cold weather. My CK levels are normal. I have recently been in hospital with neutropenia but no reason was given for it cause. Doctors can not seem to answer why i am still in pain because my blood work is normal. I try to exercise and it causes more pain. Does anybody know why after remission pain can still occur, or ways that can help reduce it? Thanks!

Re: polymyositis in remission but still having pains

I was diagnosed with polymyositis in 1995. I received treatment for eight of those years, being in and out of remission. Stess is the biggest factor in causing trouble with this illness. My CK levels are also in the normal range. I still see a rheumatologist and receive MS contin and also medication for break through pain. I have never been pain free since 1995. I rest often, after 1 day of activity I usually need 2 days of rest to recoup. Since this has gone on for such a long period I expect that it will continue. I also live in a cold climate on the shores of Lake Ontario and I feel that this adds to the pain.

Re: polymyositis in remission but still having pains

I am happy to have found this site. I guess I'm not the only one. It's going on my 17th year since I was diagnosed. I was told I was in remission about 2-3 years ago. I began having pain in my left arm recently, but the only part that was affected during my polymyositis flare up was my entire right side. It may sound strange, but my pain is only bad when I have long term exposure to the sun. When my polymyositis was severe I had to stay out of the sun because it would take me at least three days for the pain to subside and be able to walk. Now a days if I'm in the sun for a long period of time it takes about a few hours to half a day to recover. Anyone else have that problem? Currently I haven't been able to see my rheumatologist because I lost my job and insurance, so I don't know if I'm still in remission. It's been frustrating but I take things one day at a time. I'm really happy to know I'm not the only one who continues to have issues after being told "you're in remission". Good Luck everyone.
