dry cuticles?

I'm so sick of my dry hands and my nails and the damn cuticles, don't know if i spelled it right.i lived in Los Angeles,Ca and in Tucson,AZ and you know that the weather is always sunny, nice and in Arizona it's a dessert. My skin,my hands and my cuticles were so nice looking.Well i live now in DC since Sept.2003 and i tried every creme, lotion, anything for this dry skin. The only thing that helped me was i used to buy shea butter in tucson that was the best thing for my hands.I can't find it here,it's not the same. Please anyone help me and give me some advice about the cuticles?

Re: dry cuticles?

You could try to find the shea butter product that you like online, but you probably already thought of that.

My favorite hand creme is Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand Cream. The container claims
"just a dab heals dry skin", and i must say, i agree. I keep this stuff by my bed and massage it into my hands, concentrating on the cuticles, right before i go to sleep. My hands are better by morning. Dry hands have been a problem for me for a long time, and this stuff has continued to work for me.

Another thing that i recommend is to wear a hand creme during the daytime containing an SPF. Neutrogena (once again) makes a good product for this. It's called New Hands. The SPF will prevent your hands from becoming burnt and dried out because of the burn. (Sunburn on the hands, in my experience, is very hard to detect).

Hope i helped.

Creams and lotions will only condition the surface layer of the skin. Oils will work much better to deep condition; especially if they contain jojoba and vitamin E oils. Jojoba's molecule is tiny enough to penetrate the surface layer of the skin, open up the cells, then draw the large molecule of the vitamin E in after it. Other good oils to add to the mixture are passion flower oil, rice bran oil, sweet almond oil or safflower oil. These last oils wil condition and moisturize the skin.

You can buy a bottle of Solar Oil at fine nail salons or through Ulta Cosmetic outlets nationwide. You could also buy a bottle of Botanical Oil in the nail department of Sally Beauty Supply. Apply to the nails AND cuticles, then massage in. Apply at least twice a day - more often if you have your hands in water a lot, or if they are extremely dry. If you are religeous in your application, you will see a marked difference within 2 weeks. the oil will help to rehydrate the skin AND nails, keeping them flexible, soft and conditioned.

Re: dry cuticles?

I would recommend Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream. It has natural ingredients, and it smells delicious. Give it a try! www.burtsbees.com

Re: dry cuticles?

I live in Maryland also and my body especially my hands become really dry in the Winter. I have found that this Hand Creme used for cows utters works really well it is called Bova Cream but we can only find it in Southern States Farm Supply Store (I think that is what the store is called)
