Amoresse Thymol - How Long Does It Last? - Nail Problems Message Board

I have a question about using amoresse thymol to treat a nail fungus. I've looked it up online to purchase, and found it only in a 1oz bottle. If I've read the posts correctly, you use one drop (trying to get it into area of nail separation) twice daily, right? Ok, should I buy 2 bottles to save on shipping? How far does one bottle go? Or how many days? Secondly, I'd like to know is, how long do you use it? Till the new nail has completely grown out? Or must you continue using it afterward to prevent re-infection? I've searched the posts and have been unable to find these answers. I appreciate any input, as I'm pending an order to purchase some till I know how much to order.

I would get 2 bottles. I only purchased one and ran out pretty quickly. I think you need to use it until the nail is completely clear twice daily and I believe I read somewhere to apply it about times weekly for prevention. HTH

One ounce should last about 3-4 months depending on how many nails are effected. If it is only one nail, it will last longer - that is, if you are careful to only apply one drop.

Y'know.. out of curiousity.. is there a difference between a fungal infection on the fingernail as opposed to the toenail? (besides being at opposite ends of the body, lol) Is it the same bacteria and same treatment?

My problem nail is my fingernail. Just curious....

A fungus infection isn't caused by bacteria, it is caused by a spore - the two aren't anywhere near the same thing. A bacterial infection is MUCH easier to get rid of than a fungal infection.

Fungal infections of the finger or toenails are the same thing. The fungal spores enter into the space between the nail plate and the nail bed through a cut, tear or break to the seal surrounding the nail unit. Once they get in there, they settle into the skin of the nail bed and they feed off the proteins in the nail plate. They need this 'food' and the moisture in the skin to live. If we can get rid of the moisture, it is harder for the spores to live, but then the body naturally replaces any moisture we attempt to get rid of. This is why it is harder to kill a fungal infection of the toenails than an infection of the fingernails.
