Hi there. I get ridges, too. I also get bumps.
People, including doctors, have told me it is cleaning works and chemicals, but I do none of those. I think they just say that because they don't know what causes it. I do not do work with my hands at all.
My grandmother used to get them. So, for me, I believe it is genetic.
If you are a man, you can buff them down. If you are a woman, you can buff them down and use a ridge-filler nail polish. I use Rimmel ridge-filler in light pink.
There is nothing you can do about them. They are like curly hair. Likewise, your finger have ridges, grooves, or bumps. Just think of it as curly finger nails. Not exactly as pretty as curly hair, but, know this, a lot of people have them, so you are not alone in nail grossness. I have them, too.
Some people think it may be associated with Raynaud's or bad circulation. So if you smoke, stop. If you don't exercise, maybe exercise will help.
I know that I've noticed that in the summer months, my nails get better. I have figured that colder weather restricts the blood flow a bit.
