cracking (vertically) toenails... - Nail Problems Message Board

I have weird toenails anyway (from my grandmom it seems).. but my 2nd toe on my left foot.. for years.. there is this one crack in it that goes down to about 2/5 of an inch from the base where the cuticle is. I let them grow, and it'll stay together alright, but I have to be VERY careful when I clip my toenails, or if I walk into something.. it'll knock out the entire top part, either the right or left half of that toenail. It's about the length I like to keep it now, and you can look at it and see the crack.. any suggestions?? Thanks so much!

You ca always apply a coating of resin over the top much like a wrap. You don't necessarily need to use fiberglass or silk fabric, just the resin. You can get it at Sally Beauty Supply; it is called Wrap Resin by IBD. Get some 'Hurry Up' glue dryer as well. Remove the shine with a 240 grit buffer and cleanse with alcohol to remove any nail dust and to temporarily dehydrate the nail plate. Apply the resin just as you would nail polish. Hold the dryer can about 12" from the nail and spray with a light coating. Reapply as necessary.
