White spots on nails=lack of calcium? - Nail Problems Message Board

I have little white spots on my nails. I'm wondering what it's caused from. I heard it has to do with a lack of calcium...anyone know?

Little white horizontal lines in the nail plate are caused by voids in the nail cell production. The nail plate cells are made mostly of proteins called Keratin which are made up of long chains of amino acids - not calcium. The nail plate contains many minerals such as aluminum and even minute traces of gold, but not one trace of calcium. If you are experiencing white lines in the nail plate, eat more protein.

I used to get these all the time. People told me it was a lack of Zinc.
There is Zinc in my current multiple vitamen and I no longer have the white spots in my nails. Really can't say if that helped get rid of the white horizonal area but they are defiantly gone.

The spots will come and go regardless of if you take zinc or not. I have heard that as well, but in over 35 years as a nail technician and educator, I have never seen them go away completely if you are prone to them.
