Whenever there is a cut, tear or break in the seal surrounding the nail unit, it is an open invitation to a fungal infection. If the area is turning yellow, it could be a sign of a fungal infection. I would advise applying Tea Tree oil to the area twice a day to keep it dry and to prevent the possibility of further infection by fungal spores or bacterium.
