Help would be greatly appreciated - Nail Problems Message Board

Hi,

I have a problem with my big toe nail. About 6-8 weeks ago I noticed that at the top near the cuticle and about half the way across the width my nail had turned white and bumpy with a slightly uneven appearence. Since then this has spread or grown out and now affects the entire length of my nail (still only half its width which made me think t was just growing out). Today, however, I noticed that the nail has lifted away from the nail bed in this affected area. The nail bed underneath looks fine, pink with no debris. The nail is still attached.

I have experienced no pain, discomfort, swelling or any other symptoms. There is no smell either.

Could anyone tell me what has caused this and what to do next? Should I leave the loose nail attached? I'm concerned that the nail might get caught on something and then rip off the healthy (and attached) half of my nail too.

White, bumpy, pitted nails can signify nail psoriasis which can end up affecting all of your nails. I would see your physician for a proper diagnosis.
