Broken nail on nailbed - help!

Hi

I am new to this board, I hope you can help.

I had a long nail on my pinky finger - this evening, I was handling something and my finger bent under the pressure - it felt like I broke my nail but I didnt.

Well, not the way that I thought I did. My nail is partially broken horizontally across my finger - not all the way across, but in the middle. There is a little blood. I immediately cut my nail, washed my finger well w/peroxide and bandaged it.

Will it heal? what should I /shouldn't I do and /or expect? will the nail itself ever grow back? I dont mind having a split or ridge, but since this is in the middle of my nail bed I loathe the thought of not having a nail from that point down....

Please advise. Thanks!

Keep the nail short until the broken portion grows to the free edge. Once you can file it evenly you can let it grow again. The only way your nails will stop growing is if you have the nail roots surgically removed.
