peeling skin under fingernail

The skin underneath my fingernails (i am not sure what u call it) is peeling. It is very dry and flaky. It looks really bad. I have an acrylic overlay but i have been getting my nails done for a while without having this problem. I also work as a cashier and handle a lot of money so i am wondering if i have come in contact with something at work. It has been like this for about a month but it just seems to be getting drier. I use lotion every day and i have tried vaseline. Does anyone know what is causing this or what to do about it?

Thanks

You could be developing an allergic reaction to the monomer used to create the acrylic overlay. Have you experienced any itching or redness?

Lotion will not penetrate the surface layer of the skin to help heal the dryness - only oils containing jojoba oil can do that. Jojoba oil has the tiniest molecular structure so the jojoba oil can penetrate the surface layer of the skin, open up the pores and draw other healing, moisturizing and conditioning oils in after it. You can get a bottle of Botanical Oil in the nail department of Sally Beauty Supply, or Solar Oil in Ulta Cosmetic outlets nationwide. Apply a small amount to each nail surface and underneath each nail. Massage in and allow it to soak into the skin.

Re: peeling skin under fingernail

It doesn't really itch. But it is a little red because the skin will peel off and sometimes it will be sore where the skin has peeled. Do you think i should soak the overlay off? Or will it be okay if i just get that oil and put it under the nail? And could it be that the nail salon has started using different products that are stronger or something? I have been getting my nails done there for over a year and this just started happening. I showed it to the girl when i went 2 weeks ago and she said she didnt know what it was.

Re: peeling skin under fingernail

Try the oil first. If you don't see an improvement within the first two weeks, maybe you should consult your dermatologist.
