Torn cuticle? - Nail Problems Message Board

I had a hangnail the other day and instead of clipping it off, I tore it and now my finger is huge and swollen and it hurts even with the slightest touch. Is there a quick-fix for this? I tried that antiobiotic cream with the pain reliever but that only works for a few minutes....

Who knew it would hurt this bad!

The cuticle is VERY delicate tissue and a hangnail should never be torn away; always cut away. Skak in peroxide for a few minutes to ensure there are no bacteria present and then apply the ointment. Nothing will take the pain away; you will just have to wait it out. It will be sore for quite a while until the skin heals. Be as careful with it as you can.

I know, I know - I was in the car and it snagged on something so of course I tore it off! I thought afterward that I was going to pay for it LOL! I'll try soaking it tonight and then putting on the ointment. I tell you, who knew that such a thing would be so painful - I feel like my hand is going to fall off!
