Is there anything I can do?

My nails never ever grow past the top of my finger. My whole life, I haver never seen my nails grow regularly. They peel all the time, chip, and very brittle. I eat healthy and am healthy in every other aspect. My hair is healthy and so is my skin. What can I do to help my nails grow? Ive tried strenghteners and nothing has helped. Is there a vitamin that I'm posibbly missing?

There is a supplement called Biotin that has been promoted for hair & nails.

Re: Is there anything I can do?

Your nails are inherited from your family, whether it is from your mother, father or either set of grandparents. Nails, like hair and skin are all genetic. If your nails are brittle and peel, chances are that your body doesn't produce enough oil and moisture in the nail bed to 'feed' the nail plate and keep it flexible, conditioned and strong. Nail strengtheners are designed to remove oils and moisture to make the nails hard. If the flexibility is missing, hardness means nothing for strength. You must have a combination of strength and flexibility to make the nails tough.

You need to replace the missing oil and moisture in order to get your nails in optimum condition. Solar Oil is available through fine nail salons and in Ulta Cosmetic outlets nationwide. Botanical Oil is available in the nail departmetn of Sally Beauty Supply nationwide. Apply to the nails at LEAST twice daily - more often if you have your hands in water a lot or if you use household cleaning solutions without wearing gloves or if you work with a lot of paper/textiles. All of these things will wick the moistrue and oil from the nails, leaving them brittle and prone to breakage and peeling.
