Messed Up Tips!! - Nail Problems Message Board

I got solar nails done and love how they look, but after I took them off I realized that somehow the white tips on my natural nails are messed up and are no longer straight on a few fingers. It's like a wiggly white tip! Is there a way to fix this? Or do you think eventually after a few months they will go back to normal? I got my nails done again and I can tell they are still like that (from July).. It isn't a huge deal, but I want my nails to look decent when they are natural.

If the natural smile line is not its normal shape, then you very well may have contracted a yeawst or fungal infection from contaminated instruments that were used on your nails in the salon. It doesn't matter what type of nail enhancement you had applied, traditional acrylic, gel acrylic or wraps, if they used the same implements and files on you that they used on the previous client, or they didn't totally clean off the table and set out clean, unused and sanitized instruments, implements, table towels and files, chances are that they 'gave' you an infection.

It is a law in all states that require licensure that certain sanitation rules and regulations be floowed to ensure the health of the client and his/her nails. If the technician picks up a file that alread has nail dust on it and attempts ro use it on you, PLEASE refuse him/her. It is against the law!!

Oh no it's not that.. I'm sorry but I forgot to mention that it is caused by me PICKING under my own nails to keep them clean and not gross (I know some people who the bottom of the fake nails look nasty colored). Also, a few times I accidentally got my nail yanked on something but it didn't break, but made my nail line go lower.

This has happened to me before.. from cleaning under my nails on my natural nails.. but it was just at the corner and went away on its own. I just hope that it would do the same for it to happen in the middle as well.

That 'yuckky' stuff underneath the nail is simply translucent skin that grows out with the nail plate from between the nail plate ad the nail bed and is called the Solehorn Cuticle. You do not have to 'dig' this out. Simply use a good quality cuticle remover, apply and leave on for 3 minutes, gently remove the softened skin with hte pointed end of your cuticle pusher, wash your hands and scrub the nails top and botton with a soft toothbrush.

Digging under there agressively can cause a cut, tear or break to the seal surriunding the nail unit. Any cut, tear or break is an immediate super-highway for bacteria and/or fungal spores to enter the site, set up housekeeping and turn into a full-blown infection. QUIT PICKING! Besides, it is the nail technicians job to perform this simple procedure when she does your nails.

OK this sounds kind of gross.. but by "yucky stuff" I meant like when I'm eating something with sauce I'll manage to get it under my nail somehow.. and it was spaghetti sauce. It wouldn't just wash off and I ended up picking it out.

What would work better next time? I'll be sure not to do it anymore so I don't mess them up.
