| Re: Toenail Fungus
Whoaaaaaaaaa! You must not have read my post on the characteristics of fungus. True fungus is VERY hard to kill, even with prescription medication. Why? Because it is a contageous 'disease', one has to be very careful not to infect other nails or other people. Fungal spores live for a long time on contaminated surfaces such as shower floors and any type of hard or soft flooring in your house. All one has to do is walk across a contaminated surface barefoot and they stand the chance of aquiring a fungal infection.
Do you frequent nail salons? That is another avenue of exposure. Nail techs are notorious for using the same files on everyone without properly washing and sanitizing them betwen clients. This transfers the spores from one client to another. Sharing nail files or other nail implements is a HUGE no-no. So is wearing the same pair of shoes two days ina row because the spores can live in/on the leather inside of the shoes and you just keep re-infecting yourself.
It can take a year or more to completely KILL all the fungal spores. If you have fungus in one toenail, it is usually wise to treat all the nails, change your shoes daily, change your nylons daily, wear houseshoes or clean thongs rather than go barefoot - prevention is always easier than treatment.
Doctor's do not get kick-backs from the pharmasutical companies for prescribing their drugs. Lamasil is just about the only oral medication that works at this point, although it doesn't work for everyone. Over the counter or home remedies WILL work, but only if you are diligent with your applications and apply them twice daily for at least a FULL year.
Treating nail fungus is the same as treating any other disease. If the Doctor prescribes antibiotics and tells you to take a pill twice a day until they are all gone and you get to feeling better and stop taking the pills, guess what? You haven't actually 'killed' the bacteria, you just slowed it down a bit. A few weeks later, you are sick again and wonder why.
