ingrown nails - Nail Problems Message Board

Hello all,

I have the great pleasure of having all 20 nails on my person to be ingrown. They swell, bleed, throb. I usually just keep them longer so they can stick clearly out of the skin. Lately the my toe nails have been causing me a great deal of pain and the skin is swallon around them. They do not appear to infected more like bruised. I have not had any accidents with my feet either. I was just wonder if anyone had ever had ingrown nails and if there were a way to treat them or even surgerY?

I've had a couple of ingrown toenails that I tried to clip with nail clippers and I ended up getting them infected. The area became red and painful. They weren't like super red or anything so I wasn't sure if they were infected or not but they were. I went to a doctor and and had a couple of procedures done. What they do is give you a shot to numb the area then they cut almost half of your nail off. This part didn't hurt at all but I do have to say the shot wasn't painless. Then when its over with they bandage the area. Then like a day or 2 later you soak your foot in this stuff. I can't remember what its called but I found it at my local pharmacy. I had to soak my feet for a few days. Oh yeah and you have to put some ointment on the wound area then bandage it. I can't remember if I did this once or twice a day.

yep, there are procedures to get rid of them. I would start with your physician who might be able to help or refer you to a good podiatrist. I had one removed from my big toe about a year ago.

So after you had your nail fixed by the doctor, did the problem come back once the nail had grown back?

I'm thinking of having the doctor cut the sides off the nail, but I feel like it's just going to grow back in...

My nail has grown thicker and curled in on the sides. I think it started from wearing shoes that were a tiny bit too small. Doc says it's not fungus... I just dream of him cutting it and the problem never coming back.

The problem shouldn't come back if you clip your nails properly.
