Something Strange Is Going On With My Toe....... - Nail Problems Message Board

Hi,
I wonder if any one knows what on eart could be wrong with my toe. Its the toe next to my big toe. For the passed three or so months its been really sore and swollen on the side and I thought that it was an ingrown toe nail, but its not. Then I thought that maybe my big toe nails corner was too sharp and it was rubbing on the side of my second toe making it sore, red and swollen. So I wore a plaster for about two weeks and this did not help at all. Now the redness and swelling has gone around to the top of my toe too, at the base of the nail.
It is really sore and I no idea what it could be as I wear open shoes, i dont get artificial nails and its not a fungus. Its just been red, swollen and sore for the last three months and its moving around my toe. The actual nail does not hurt at all, its just around my nail up to my first toe knuckle.
It sounds really stupid but I have given up on ideas of what it could be and it hurts.
PLEASE help!

It could be a Paronychia infection of the nail folds. Please see your doctor as it will only get worse.

Thank you SO much for the reply!
I did some reading up on it and it sounds like exactly what i have. I dont think it is so advance though because the nail is fine and there is no pus, but it probably is heading that way. I will deffinatly get it seen to asap.
