| Re: Nail Peeling
As we age, the nail plate begins to dry out because our bodies no longer produce the same amounts of oils and moisture which keep the nails, skin and hair plump, flexible and strong. Peeling nails is a sign of aging which normally begins in our early 20's and just gets worse the older we get. 52 isn't old, but it is also the time we normally begin to see these signs of aging.
You need to keep the nail plate and the surrounding skin hydrated with twice daily applications of a good quality nail and cuticle oil such as Botanical Oil or Solar Oil. Botanical Oil is available in the nail department of your local Sally Beauty Supply. Solar Oil is available in fine nail salons and in Ulta Cosmetic outlets.
You might try lightly buffing the surface with a 3-way buffer (Sally's). Buff with first the black side to remove the peeling layers, then the white side to refine, then the gray side to buff to a high shine. Apply the oil and massage into the skin and nails. Do this several times a day and always at night. Buff only when you see peeling and then only lightly. You do not want to remove too many vital nail plate layers, just the peeling ones.
