Toenail Fungus, what next? - Nail Problems Message Board

I have had toenail fungus in my big toe for a few years now. This is my only nail which i have a problem with all other nails are fine. I stubbed my toe about 3 years ago and fungus invaded my nail during that trauma i suppose.

I am in my early twenties and feel hopeless about this and dont know what to try next. I have tried almost everything i have looked up on the internet. Vicks, topical solutions at drug stores, vinegar(which i am still doing and it will be a year in March), Lamisil for 3 months( i took the last pill in Jan). I thought i would finally see results with Lamisil which when i saw the doctor he thought i would have positive results due to my infection not being at the bottom of my nail.

The bottom of my nail from the cuticle to about half way up looks completely normal. Then as it goes up you can see the infection. My nail has mostly crumbled away and i have no nail at the top. My nail has no seperation and it looks to me like it is stuck to my skin almost because i am not able to get under my nail at all. My nail hardly grows anymore. I dont really have much of a nail on the top of my toe due to the doctor cutting some of it off like 4 months ago when he was testing for fungus which came back positive .

I am having a lot of pain with this now. If i walk for long periods of time i have pain on my toe and foot. I dont want to exercise anymore cause that causes a lot of pain. the pain is the worst part but i am also always worried abotu this and can not focus on anything else. I hate myself and my foot and in general just not happy because of this. I know i havent given the Lamisil much time to work but it or anything does not seem to be working and i am fed up and wanting to go back to the doctor and ask to have my nail removed.

Any suggestions of something else to try or if nail removal would be a good or bad thing will be appreciated. Thank you for reading this.

I am suspecting that the fungus might have returned, or the nail bed has been damaged from removing the effected portion. It could also be nail atrophy in that area. See your podiatrist.

have fungus in both big toes, causes in grown toe nails and very pain ful at times. I had curves nails to the point that sides almost touched, very thick and nothing worked. went to foot dr and he removed both toe nails and gave me meds to put on nail bed during healing. He warned me that it would probably come back as the infection was sever. I still have some discoloration, and have to be careful about trimming but over all happy with results. WOuld recomend to go for it if DR. suggests. Most pain is the numbing and unless you stub your toes not much discomfort after day1.
