Hello,
I've been treating toenail fungus on my right big toe for about 6 months with Vicks Vapo Rub. It seems to be really working- there's no more gunk under my nail, there's no fungus smell, and the nail is a pretty normal color. It's still really thick, but I think that's a result of the injury that let the fungus in in the first place. Though, I did slack off from using the Vicks for a few days, and I noticed the side of my nail was growing into my toe, and when I trimmed it down, I smelled a hint of fungus. What's the likelihood that the fungus took over again in those few days I wasn't good with applying the Vicks? Is this a big setback?
Another concern that I have is that I have a horizontal ridge across the toenail. The ridge itself doesn't worry me, because I mentioned it here once, and you said it was probably because of the injury I suffered years ago. I always get a horizontal ridge that gows all the way out from the bottom, and as soon as it gets to the top where I can clip it off, another one starts to grow in behind it at the bottom. The lucky thing is that the ridge that's there now just started coming up when I started applying the Vicks, so I'll know when the nail has fully grown out and when I can stop applying the Vicks. But the strange thing is that brown gunk seems to build up in the ridge. The ridge is more like a shallow crack, and at first, I thought it was just dust that was getting stuck to the Vicks because I'd started applying the Vicks at the end of the summer and was still wearing flip-flops around. But now, it still builds up there, even though I wear socks and wash my feet regularly, and it actually seems like it's the actual nail that's turning colors, and then it actually starts to peel, so that now the "ridge" is actually peeling down every so often with this gunk that builds up there. What is this?? Is this from the fungus??
