What does this Black streak mean? - Nail Problems Message Board

I've got a black streak/line from the base of my thumb going all the way out to the end of the nail. It never goes away. The finger next to it the nail is dark colored but no streaks.

I had radial nerve surgery which affected all my fingers but these two have the above markings. Does anyone know what this might be? I wonder if this is some type of damage either from the surgery or before the tumor in my arm was removed.

It could be a nail melanoma that is growing in the matrix - you should have your doctor check it out as melanoma can be malignant or benign. Nail melanoma is characterized by a brown to black line that runs from the base of the nail all the way to the distal edge.
