Wondering if my nail will ever grow normally again - Nail Problems Message Board

I am very sad because I have been battling with a nail infection for about 4 years, each time it seems as though it was getting better it gets worst. I have hade numerous treatment (Lamisil, Spornox and batrafen). The nail is growing back now after using Canestan solution, however the nail not growing normally (it is lifted from the root so there is space between the nail and the nail bed) I am seeing a pediatris who advise me that my nail bed might be damaged and that it may never grow back normally. Is there any corrective measure for the nail nail to grow back normally if your nail bed is damaged?

If it is growing in already separated at the cuticle line, then the damage may be in the matrix where the nail plate cells are born and not just related to the nail bed. If so, the damage is permanent - especially since you have had it for so long. If the nail does not repair itself within 6 months of the damamge, it will never be 'normal' again.

I think this is the problem I have too.

So is this caused by fungus in the matrix?

If this isthe problem can the nail ever grow without fungus? or with daiy treatment will the fungus go if t is in the matrx?

I dont mind having a wonky nail (if thats what you mean by not normal???) i just want fungus free nails
