losing a fingernail

I slammed my finger in between 2 bricks a couple weeks ago. I kept a bandaid on it and soaked in peroxide a couple times a day. Now I lost my nail, but which seems to be a new nail is brown. What is that all about? It is about 1 cm long now. Is it going to stay that color? Is it my nail or just my nail bed?

Re: losing a fingernail

I would go see your dermatologist. Discoloration in the nail plate may signify a Pseudomonas bacterial infection. Boiling it out with peroxide is a good idea, but the bandaid isn't. Bandaids will keep the area 'wet' and you need to dry it out. The peroxide will help keep it dry and allow it to heal.
