| Re: my toenail ripped off what should i do
Depends on if it ripped off entirely, or if it is just lifted up. Either way, keep it clean and dry and apply peroxide at least twice daily to not only prevent infection, but to help dry out the nail bed. In a few weeks, you should be able to cut away the separated portion. The nail will grow back in from the matrix. Depending on the amount of damage done to the nail bed and your genetics for nail growth, it can take from 6-12 months to completely replace the damaged portion. Please do not keep it wet by applying antibacterial ointment as this will only keep the nail bed wet and prevent healing. Remember, this is 'raw' skin.
