| Nail fungus?
I don't know when it started, but it started out with a little discoloration on my big toenail, which I really didn't think much of. Over the months, there was more discoloration and I started seeing it on another toenail. The doctor looked at it, told me it was a nail fungus, and prescribed lamisil pills. I took them the 3 months I was supposed to and over that time the nails got worse. I went back to the doctor and he said they looked like they were getting better. I couldn't convince him otherwise. He prescribed more lamisil and told me to take them for 3 weeks, off a week, etc. for 3 months. I took them for about 2 weeks and my big toenail (the one that first had the infection/fungus) looked loose. I couldn't stand the idea of it catching on my socks, so I eventually worked up the nerve see if I could cut it off. I lifted it up slightly and cut a little off the length of the nail. I kept doing this until I got almost the whole nail cut off, but it's attached to the right side, so now I only have about 1/8" left on that side. I put bandaids on the nail because I can't stand to look at it. I have another nail now but it looks bad, not like I was hoping a new nail would look like. It looks worse than the original nail, having a ridge running horizontally and the end looks like something chewed it up, very frayed-looking and not out all the way to the end. That's the way one toenail on my right foot looks too, and the ridge on it looks like a black line running across the nail. So far I have 4 toenails that I'm having problems with, two being worse than the other two.
Is there anything I can be doing on my own here at the house to treat my nails? The lamisil apparently isn't making a bit of difference other than maybe making them worse if that's possible. I know it's not helping. A friend of mine got me some bath salts just today and told me that I should soak my feet in those and see if it clears it up. At this point I'm about willing to try anything because I'm getting the idea that the doctor doesn't know what to do. Any advice you could give me is much appreciated.
