nails falling apart - Nail Problems Message Board

about a month ago I noticed 2 finger on my right hand looked a little funny at the start of the nail at the cuticle, very slightly yellowish white, when I touched the spot on the nail I noticed it was EXTREMELY soft. Soft enough for me to dig a chunk out. I figured it was some sort of infection and started putting antibiotic cream on it. They are just white now, but do turn yellow a little once in a while, I put some more cream on and the yellow goes away. They wont go back to normal though, they have almost fully grown out, and are much thinner than they should be and deformed. they dont seem to be getting any better. they dont hurt in any way, I just cant figure out whats wrong. I have another nail on the other hand thats starting to do the same thing a month later. Its difficult to describe, looking at htem right now, they are not discolored at all, but they are deformed, and soft/brittle. Anybody have any idea, I looked for a picture but couldnt find anything like this so describing it is all I can really do.

You may have an infection in the matrix and you should go see your dermatologist.

is there any way to treat it at home? If I go to the doctor its all out of pocket and my pockets are running a little light.

If it is an infection in the matrix, it cannot be treated at home and you need to see your dermatologist as this is a Medical condition.

Any sudden change in the nail plate or nail growth is cause for concern.

What exactly does it look like when this happens, because there isnt any discoloration, only where the nail is flaking off its white, but I would assume thats because that part of the nail is really soft. Ive been told it could also be a vitamin deficiency, I thought it wouldnt be since its only a few nails, but according to them it can still only effect a few, or take longer to start to effect the others, which could be true as some time after the first 2 started 2 on the other hand started to do the same thing, one went back to normal, the other doesnt seem to have gotten worst and isnt very bad, still bad enough to look funny though.
