split nail - Nail Problems Message Board

Several years ago my finger got slammed in a door. The finger nail split up the middle. To this day my nail will not grow past the tip of my finger as it is always split in the middle. There is now a white line up the middle of the nail and it is split in two at the tip. I would really like to grow out my nails again. Any idea how to resolve this problem?

Since it has been this way for 2 years, it will not change. Unless it healed within 2-3 months, the damage is permanent. You can have an artificial coating applied, but only if the split portion is not showing the skin of the nail bed.
