Depends - if the spots look like oil drops, it could be the beginning of Nail Psoriasis and will also have tiny pin-dot depressions in the nail plate. It could also be a Pseudomonas bacterial infection. You should see your dermatologist as this sounds like a medical condition to me. Any sudden change in the nail plate is cause for concern.
