| Lister Corn
I think I may have a lister corn on my fifth toe(nail). I have been guilty of wearing tight-fitting heels until this week, when the pain overruled vanity. The nail appears to be split from the tip to the cuticle close to the outside edge. The little chunk on the outside is uneven and has developed a thickening skin around it. I don't think it is infected, but it is getting increasingly uncomfortable.
I asked my GP about it during my last physical, but she didn't really seem too concerned about it. She told me to use Lamisil, but isn't that a fungal treatment? Since she didn't really even look at the toenail, I didn't feel very confident in her opinion. Should I go back and insist she look at it more closely or should I just go ahead and see a specialist on my own (my insurance allows self-referral)? If I were to go to a specialist, should it be a Podiatrist or a Dermatologist or some other specialist?
Thanks for your advice.
