Is it too late to treat my toe nail fungus?

I've had toe nail fungus for about 12 years, it started during my days in the Military. I have never tried to cure it. I've never tried vinegar or any medication like Lamasil.

Recently I looked at my nails, and I'm tired of being embarrassed about my feet. I don't want to be that guy who wears socks with sandals anymore. Is it too late for me?

Hello BHR2K2K5.

If your toes are able to grow new healthy nails your situation may be reversible. I've found Lamisil to be an effective treatment for toenail fungus. A drawback with Lamisil is it can be hard on the liver, so your doctor may want to do some bloodwork before giving you a prescription.

Another option your doctor may suggest is removing the infected toenails. I don't know how this would work out for you or if you even want to consider this option.

In the same boat here!
Ask your doctor about a paint on nail lacquer, there are two kinds ... research online as I can't name them, sorry. You paint it on all week on nail and skin around it, take it off with alcohol once a week, grind nails down to get new surface for it to penetrate. I do not know if it will work but I am going to try since I too am tired of this. If you want to wear sandals, I was thinking a fake plastic toenail like gals use and painted to look like the others could work for when a person goes out, but would have to take it off at home to treat nail. Or paint with flesh colored nail polish if your nail is smooth enough.

One kind is called Penlac, the lacquer from a doctor, noticed it on one of the older posts. She had pretty good luck with working with it.
