Infant anal fistulotomy

My 10 month old had an abscess outside of his anus that we treated for 2 months w/antibiotics. We finally got referred to a pediatric surgeon who diagnosed him with an anal fistula and said the abscess would continue to return and fill with pus so he recommended an anal fistulotomy. He had the surgery 7 days ago. Is there anyone out there who has been through this kind of surgery w/ an infant and can tell me how long before this hole/laceration heals/closes completely? The surgeon said it is healing from the inside out and could take 2-3 weeks. Just looking for someone to explain their experience.
