Back from the Neurologist

He said that my cigarrete smoking is probably causing all my neurological symptoms. Then he told me the fireballs/shooting stars that I see from time to time in the shower are a HALLUCINATION!!!!!! I do not do any drugs so how would I be having hallucinations.

He ordered a MRI of my brain, neck and spine. Also he ordered a EMG (some sort of electric test on my nerves).

I asked with all of my symptoms could this be MS? He said maybe, he will know more after the MRI. He said because I smoke that I will have many white spots on my brain also clogged vessels in my brain due to the same thing.

He said the electric shock in my head and second toe he has no idea, also the numbess I get in my right thigh he has no idea....he said "maybe your just crazy"!

Im left frustrated and more confused than when I went in. He also said they diagnose people with Fibromyalgia when they can't figure out whats wrong.

Is any of this true?

Hope

Re: Back from the Neurologist

Hi Hope

Where did this guy get his medical degree?? Walmart??
There seems to be a rash of Neuro Quacks out there lately. Every day it seems that there is someone posting about a Doctor who dismisses a patient by saying they need a Shrink when their symptoms don't immediately show MS. After seeing them they probably do need a psych eval for stress.
How frustrating for you.
I would get the tests done and go from there with the results to another Neuro who specializes in MS. I have been a smoker for years and my MRI didn't show any white spots, and the electrical shocks in my head that go down to my feet when I tilt my head were diagnosed as L'hermettes (sp?) which is a classic MS symptom.
You know your body better than anyone, and if you feel that something is wrong don't give up until someone listens to you. You deserve answers.

Take care
KT

Thanks for your reply
He just wouldn't let the smoking go. He kept harping on it and at one point he actually THANKED me for smoking, he said smokers will help put his kids thru college!!!!!! I said give me some of your cards and I'll pimp you out to all my smoker friends!!!!!!!!

Did you have the EMG? I'm kind of worried because he says it only hurts the ones who take chronic meds, and I said like my Darvocet and he said YES! He said smoking is more dangerous than narcotic pain relievers!!!!!

He asked if I drank alcohol and I said yes maybe 1 beer a month he said oh ok, and when I asked why he said that will do your nervous system in too.....people who drink bring me good business too!!!!!!!!!!

I'm confused wouldn't the radiologist read the MRI and give the reports to the Dr? I didn't know that the Dr's read them themselves.

Hope

Re: Back from the Neurologist

Hope!

Your doc sounds like the Quack from Heck! I would NEVER see him again if I were you. I can't believe he talked to you that way! I would have gotten up and left if he made that remark to me about putting his kids through college. I just pray one of his kids doesn't develop MS. I would definitely find another neuro. I agree totally with KTMorra, except that to say he got is degree from Walmart would be an insult.............to Walmart (sarcastic son of a gun!)

You might want to consider another neuro. best of luck to you and keep us posted.

blessings,
michelle

Re: Back from the Neurologist

hey hope, I just went to nuero last week. I too have white spots. They tell me it's normal. If it's normal why do I have so many symptoms. I smoke also, but they didn't say anything about that. But they want me to see shrink. I don't have a prob with that, but there is something physically wrong. I can feel it. I try not to bring smoking up becasue docs are good at blaming everything on that. I hate them right now! try to take care.
