Seeing the Neurologist Tomorrow, What Should I Expect?

Tomorrow is my first visit with a neurologist, and I'm a bit uneasy.

Actually I was tempted to cancel the appointment. I've been doing great lately. For the last two weeks, my back pain has mostly been mild to none at all. THe leg numbness went away and never came back. I feel positive and hopeful as it seems like my body is improving. I don't know what this guy can really do for me or what he will do on a first visit. I just hope he doesn't leave me with a feeling of doom or impending bad news.

The neurologist will probably wonder why you are there to see him, also.

He will probably talk with you for awhile and perform a simple neurological exam. If he feels there is a problem that needs to be pursued, he will probably order some imaging, like an MRI. There is nothing to worry about.

Why did you make the appointment? Have you had ongoing problems with your back? Sounds like your problem has cleared up on his own. If you are sensible in how you treat your back, you may be able to avoid future back problems. Wouldn't that be nice??

Hey David,
I would keep the appt..leg numbness is never normal and even though it has pretty much cleared up the neurologist can at least do a baseline neuro exam. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Thanks Deb. That will be good. I just don't want anything to shatter my newly found optimism. I read my MRI report, and try to feel positive about it even though it mentions miminal degenerative disc disease. I will come armed with my MRI report, and even a cd with my MRI images!

Hi, I would keep the appt. if I were you. The best thing that could happen is that you will leave with peace of mind. I would request an MRI just to see what is actually going on in your back, then you will know for sure if you need to be careful the way you treat it. The back pain and numbness was not there for no reason. I know by my experience that if I cancelled the symptoms would probably come back in a couple of days and then I would have to wait again to reschedule. Good luck, most of the docs dont' bite. Keep us informed....................Debbie
