Pain Management for PHN - Neurologist? Accupuncture: - Neurology Message Board

I have had PHN since 2005 and have been on several different meds as well as injections (Cymbalta, Lyrica, currently on Gabapentin and Epidurals, alcohol injections and Lydocaine injections). I have heard that Accupuncture may help in the pain management. I have also heard that seeing a Neurologist may also help, that they can prescribe some type of a med that blocks the pain receptors. Has anyone tried either treatment, and if so, what did you think? Thanks so much.

i also have phn, i've had it for @ 4 yrs now. i am in pain mgmt and take lyrica and vicodin and have never heard of accupuncture for this condition, all the research i've done over the years i've never run across this......its such a long term problem that you feel like you might try anything..i'm only 48 and can,t imagine living with this crap forever, hopefully they'll come up with something someday that treats this condition i know the shots i had were no help and meds just take the edge off enough to get through your day, good luck

I don't have PHN, but I have chronic pain from permanent nerve damage, failed back surgery, SI joint dysfunction etc. After 2 failed fusions and a failed spinal cord stimulator, injections, and radio frequency treatments, (and numerous meds.) I decided to try accupuncture only because the pm dr. said that there was nothing else he could do. I really did not tink it would work, but I figured I could not hurt. I am now a huge believer! I have gone from having excrutiating pain, by 2pm 4-5 days a week...now In the past 6 weeks of treatment, I have had maybe 4 of those days, in the entire time.
