Locating a neurologist for DBS surgery (Pete)
Pete, it took me awhile to remember how to find the answer to your question, so here is the "roadmap": go to www.medtronics.com, click on patient information, click on shaking and tremor patients, click on Activa FAQ's, click on locate physician, this next screen is "Providers of Activa therapy", on the list click on USA, click on your state. Their you will find a list of neurologists who are experienced in progaming the implanted device.
The neuro and the neurosurgeon work as a team during the surgery and after the surgery the neuro will program and make adjustments on the device. They tell me the STN site is harder to program and may take several sessions to get it right. A Medtronics rep is also present during the surgery.
I am currently waiting for FDA approval of the STN surgery and then medicare will cover it in all states.
I almost forgot that when you contact a neuro they will make an appointment with the neurosurgeon for you.
Pete, it has been a long wait, but we will get there. Bruce
