Severe neuropathy from chemicals?

I was hired as the individual who was responsible for taking care of a large commercial swimming pool in the town I live. The pool equipment is located in a basement that does not have adequate ventilation (we were sited twice by the state for not having proper airflow). Two weeks into this job I was involved in a major chlorine gas exposure that sent me to the hospital with eye and skin burns. I had on a half gas mask so all of the exposure was from skin absorption. The pool is heated by steam and all of those lines go through the basement making it very hot. I had around 45 minutes of exposure that day. I would have run but did not even know it was chlorine gas as I was not trained until five months into the job.

After that everything seemed normal minus having very sweaty feet. Four months after the exposure I developed sever peripheral neuropathy in both legs. I continued working on the pool daily for about 19 months even though I could barley walk. I even needed a wheelchair to get around the building for many months!

I sought out help outside of our small town and ended up going to Salt Lake City. My neurologist there said it was from all of the chemical exposures. In addition to the chlorine gas I had daily exposures to calcium hypochlorite and hydrochloric acid. There are three other neurologists that do not agree with that diagnosis and have giving me three different diagnosis’.

Have any of you heard of something like this happening because of the three different chemical agents? There is not much out there in terms of research but it seems to make sense to me. I was a happy and healthy 29 year old when this happened without any family or personal history of illness. Please point me in the correct direction for research papers or internet links so I can study up on this topic.

Thanks in advance!
