Strange unexplainable symptoms of Ears Eyes & Throat Pain.

Hi Folks,

Apologies for the long post.

I've just joined and I am hoping that someone can help me with a problem i have been having for over 8 Years but after numerous ENT consultations and tests along with Neurology Consultations nobody seems to know what is causing my symptoms that are ruining my life.

I get severe ear pain that range from a constant irritation all day long where they feel extremely strained and then on other days I get pain spikes every 2-5 seconds that are so severe they make my head jerk and my hands clasp in agony. Its like toothache pain only in the ear. Its definitely in the middle/inner ear. I have found that if i close my tragus over my ear opening it can help a bit but if i keep it closed the pain is different but begins to intensify. When i release my tragus my ears feel warm and relieved but then it happens all over again. I have found rubbing my TMJ also can help when these spikes occur but not for long.

My voice box will not stop moving all day long with very severe cramps and spasms that are so extreme sometimes it feels like they have contracted to the point of choking. I can still breathe ok but it feels like i'm suffocating and it can cause breathlessness. When the spasms are severe and i walk up three flights of stairs my breath is irregular and i can actually hear the effect the voice box is having on my breathing. Its not pleasant at all and it is at its worst when i try to sleep at night. My voice box feels like its at the gym working out and after maybe an hour it will settle and i get to sleep. There are other times where it feels like my vocal chords are being plucked like a guitar string when sleeping causing me to wake up moaning. Its the worst feeling ever.
To better explain this symptom is its like my voice box and all the muscles are talking away to itself when i'm not and I'm trying to simply breathe. Its so unpleasant trying to breath when your voice box is working away on its own.

My neurologist mentioned dystonia but i have no problems with speech etc and he seems to have ruled it out.

My eyes. Only the eyelids, eye brow and center muscles between the eyebrows are giving me a lot of trouble. They are called the obicularis oculi, procures, corrugator supercilii muscles.

My symptoms vary. There are days where the eyelids feel like they are being forced open causing Spasms and pain in the upper eyelid towards the nose and the eye brows are very strained. The procures muscle contracts severely causing a lot of pain forcing me to massage it to help with the pain and muscle stress. Again this is happening like the ears where i have severe contractions and pain for 2-5 seconds and then release and then again and again for hours, then it stops.
The other symptom is that i could be at work and next thing i know my eyelids become extremely tired and exhausted making it very hard to keep my eyes open. The strange thing about this symptom is that it comes in spikes not continuously too. Its like my eyelid gets contracted differently than with the pain but it causes the muscles to collapse in strength making them feel extremely exhausted and its hard to keep them open. again this happens in spikes of 2-5 seconds then they stop for about 5 seconds and begin again lasting for an hour or more and then they stop and i'm back to normal again. Like trying to keep awake this eye stimulation causes head movements the same as when you are fighting to stay awake but I am not tired.

------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------ --------

Strange thing is that when I am out with friends, socializing or giving presentations at work etc, all of these symptoms can disappear. It helps a lot to go out say for a night out drinking with friends etc.
Like i said previously these symptoms are at their worst when relaxing, working or trying to get to sleep.
------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------ --------
So far ENT and Neurology have checked my throat with CT SCans and Bronchoscopy but found everything to be normal. I have had a Nerve Conduction test done on my ears and everything is normal along with a MRI scan and again everything is normal with the brain nerves and ears etc.

What is depressing me is that it seems my ENT specialists are giving up in trying to diagnose me. After just the Ear Nerve Test my neurologist is of the opinion that there is nothing further he can do. But what about the eye and voice box nerve tests? Can the nerves associated with those parts also cause ear pain?

ENT keep telling me that all 3 symptoms at the same time is strange but yet they just go through the checklist of known issues and then seem to let me go there and suffer not checking for what is causing it. My neurologists depressed me a lot when he told me "sometimes things just don't work like they are supposed to." Gee thanks, so sometimes getting extreme ear & eye pain and having my voice box choking me every day for over 8 years is because sometimes things just don't work properly. How professional.
------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------ --------

I am joining numerous forums etc to get to the bottom of this as its ruining my life. I am taking 200mg of Nurotin 3 times a day and 200mg of Tramadol every day which only takes the edging off and helps with the depression its causing.
I am on 20 mg of Citaolpram for the depression also and i have tried taking Valium to see if it will relax everything, just 10mg but it doesn't seem to do anything at all tbh.

I hope someone can shed some light on what is wrong with me.

Re: Strange unexplainable symptoms of Ears Eyes & Throat Pain.

It could be a long shot, but if you have any mercury fillings you could be allergic to the mercury and it could be causing you to have all those symptoms. If you do have these kind of fillings, your dentist could replace them with something else instead of the mercury.

I hope you find the answers that you're looking for. I wish you well. God bless
