Spinocerebellar Degeneration (elite) inherit?
My mother had SpinoCerebellar Degeneration (Elite) The disease ran its horrible course & took her life. Now, I'm concerned regarding it being passed down to a family member, me or my son or son's son.
All I could find was "If both parents carry the gene (heterozygous) than there is a one in four chance of having an offspring with the complete disease and a 50% chance of the child being at least a carrier (heterozygous--like the parents). The risk to siblings of an affected individual is 25%. The same risk applies to each pregnancy regardless of the outcome of prior pregnancies"
The above does not mention the next generation after the desease, so my grandfather & grandmother had the bad gene, resulting in my mother getting the disease. My mother (bad gene) & father (probably ok gene) had me, so the question is: In my creation, is my mother's bad gene replaced with my father's good gene resulting in no future disease or is my whole line and offsprings etc... carriers for life? Does anyone know the answer to this question?
Thank you so much
