Greetings everyone. Trusting you all are having a splendid day.
Wondering if anyone out there has or knows what could be wrong with me...
May 15 a sudden onset of cut vision, severe lightheadedness coupled with numbness and tingling in my face, and leftside extremites and general all over weakness.
ER physicians did a CAT Scan and Chest X-ray. Everything looked OK and they sent me home and told me to follow up with family physician. Two weeks later, the same scene played out, but this time I was kept in the hospital. A battery of tests were run to include an LP in which one test was slightly abnormal an MRI of the head to show a few lesions, an MRA which looked good, blood work that showed low potassium, EEG, EKG, and a host of other tests that I do not recall the names of. I was released in four days and told to follow up with my family physician.
I returned to work and one day later the same scene played out a third time. Symptoms included severe lightheadedness, numbness in my face and head, tingling of my neck and head and left side extremities and general all over weakness. I have also had headaches and general fatigue. I was given an IV steroid, neurontin was introduced and more tests were added. An MRI of the cervical spine was performed and a bulging disc was found. Also, more blood work showed that I could have a wheat allergy (Sprue). This will be confirmed when I have the small intestine biopsy later this week.
The neurologist treated me with cortisone and increased my neurontin up to 300mg 3 times a day. I still have symptoms most everyday, lasting anywhere from 10 minutes to4-5 hours. The numbness and tingling I can deal with, the lightheadedness is really disrupting my daily routine (like WORK). From reading other postings I see that it could be a deficiency of B12, folic acid, magnesium...or something autoimmune.
The first thing I thought was vasculitis of the CNS but both my doctor and the specialists said that was not the case...reason I considered that was I had been a user of caffiene, nicotine, ephedra and cold medicines, daily and sometimes all at the same time. (bad girl) Any help, thoughts or ideas are greately appreciated.
