Tickling in Upper Back and Stomach

Hello!

I'm a 35 year old male who has been dealing with an odd set of symptoms for a year or so now (off and on). I have a bad back, which has bothered me since my early twenties, and am also overweight (but working on it! ). A few years ago I developed a "tickling" sensation in my chest/upper stomach that seemed to be tied to a tightness/pain in my upper middle back.

When I stretched out, walked, or stood, it didn't bother me, but when I sat it started up, and it was annoying as heck. After a few months, it went away.

Now, just over a year ago, the symptoms returned. This seems to come and go, sometimes lasting for weeks or months, and seems to return when I do something stupid, like lift heavy things alone, or when I'm stressed out, and, as in the past, it's at its worst when sitting (which I do all day, as I'm a writer/graphic designer)!

Has anyone ever experienced this? These aren't twitches or anything. Just a tickling!

My doctor sent me in for a full GI work-up, all my bloods are fine, my heart is great, blood pressure normal, etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Re: Tickling in Upper Back and Stomach

Actually, I haven't tried an allergy test. I've thought about the possibility that it may be allergies, but the combination of the back pain/tightness and the tickling sensation made me think it was something neuromuscular. Also, it only bothers me a lot when I'm sitting/laying down. Oddly, exercise and standing seem to alleviate it for awhile.

Re: Tickling in Upper Back and Stomach

Well, since you have had all that testing done and nothing was found, it is time to go to the back.I would highly recommend an MRI of your full spine, or at the very least here,an MRI done on the thorasic and cervical areas. The symptoms you describe can very well be comming from some sort of disorder that lies either in the discs or actually inside of the cord itself.I had these type of symptoms and my problem was what is called a cavernoma that was inside of my spinal cord at the c and T spine levels. It is basically a glob of blood vessels that my NS told me most likely had been there since birth(congenital)these types of lesions will usually present with some sort of neurological type symptoms at around 30 to 40 years of age.I am not trying to freak you out here, really, just giving you one of many many possibilities that would explain your symptoms.I really do think that an MRI would be the best next step in your search.let me know how things are going.FB

Re: Tickling in Upper Back and Stomach

Thanks Feelbad!

Not freaking me out at all! I appreciate the insight, and really just want to find a root cause for it. I'm lucky in that, in it's current incarnation, this thing isn't debilatating like so many problems I've read about on here. I feel truly blessed that this is my "worst problem"
