I went to the neurologist today because it was determined I have signs of neurological disease. The neurologist said that I have a "significantly abnormal" neurological examination and sent me in for MRIs of my brain and cervical spinal cord. The neurologist says I have spasticity in my legs, which helps account for my weird stiff legged gait, and that I have highly brisk reflexes. (That sounded like a good thing to me, but I guess its really not). Also when he examined my reflexes, my left leg spasmed repeatedly, which spread up my leg. I am going tomorrow for an EMG which measure electricity in your muscles by inserting an electrode into the muscle. I obviously don't have the results yet, but I was told that I have some kind of myelitis. I don't know the exact disease yet or the prognosis, but everything I look into doesn't sound too encouraging. I wondered if anyone knows about myelitis, what I have to look forward to in the future and what this means as far as what might be wrong with me. Is this part of a bigger disease? This has probably progressed over years rather than weeks or months, so I don't know whether I fit into the category of transverse myelitis or MS, or something completely different. Does anyone suffer from chronic myelitis? I'm pretty disabled, in a wheelchair most of the time and using crutches the rest of the time. I'm getting a service dog too to help be more independent. I'm just not sure what to make of this appointment. My MRI results will be back friday or monday. Thanks!
