Post paralyzed left side, strange brain desease

I have a cousin who just had a brian surgery, and he is till in coma. I don't know what is the name of the desease in English, but the I could explain what he has. The neurosurgeons said that it's unusual that happen to young people like him (he's only 27). It started with the twitching of his left eye, and some headache for a week before he suddenly passed out completely. The doctors said that one of his brain blood stream was clogged, and they went to do the surgery. Now that the surgery was completed "well", they said that they removed 1/4 of his brain. I just don't get why they did that, and how it happened.
We are expecting him to be mentally disabled after this, but I wonder what are the chances for him to function as "normal" as possible.
One of my aunt noticed that he was paralized all of his left side before the surgery, and also after, but when she scrached his left toes, he reponded to it.
I really want to know what he has cuz aparently the doctors don't know what happened, what caused him to be in that state. Well, he was telling his family that he was understress recently.
I think that's all I can describe, and if anyone knows, or guesses, or whatever, please, tell me something. I just want to give some kind of hope to his family because it's so not fair it happened to him at this age. I really feel sorry for his fiancee too.
Thank you for reading this.

NATYKIM, IT SOUNDS LIKE AN ANUERYSM THIS IS WHERE THE
ARTERIES OF THE BRAIN ARE CLOGGED OR BURST WITHOUT MUCH
WARNING- SURGERY IS THE ONLY WAY THAT IT IS CORRECTED
AND HE POSSIBLY IF HE RECOVERS FROM THE COMA, MAY NEED TO TAKE COUMADIN/BLOOD THINNERS FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE. YES, THIS IS STRANGE THAT IT HAPPENED TO A YOUNGER MAN, MOSTLY THIS CONDITION IS FOUND IN ELDERLY
PATIENTS. BUT DO NOT GIVE UP ON HOPE, HE MAY BE ABLE
WITH THERAPY AND SUPPORT TO COME OUT OF THIS YET.
REMIND THE FAMILY THAT EVEN THOUGH HE IS IN A COMA NOW
HE CAN HEAR YOU, HE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO RESPOND, BUT ANYTHING THAT YOU TALK ABOUT IN FRONT OF HIM WHEN HE
WAKES UP, HE MAY REPEAT BACK TO YOU ALL. HE IS LUCKY THAT IT WAS NOT FATAL, SO IN THAT THERE IS ALSO HOPE.
PRAYERS AND SUPPORT FROM THE FAMILY ARE THE BEST ALONG
WITH GOOD MEDICAL CARE. THE REASON THAT HE HAD THE SYMPTOMS ON THE LEFT SIDE OF HIS BODY IS THAT THE SIDE
OF THE BRAIN THAT WAS AFFECTED WAS HIS LEFT. SO IF AND WHEN HE C0MES OUT OF THE COMA PHYSICAL, SPEECH, AND OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY WILL WORK WITH HIM TO SEE IF THEY CAN BRING ABOUT A MIRACLE. HE MAY HAVE TO LEARN JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING ALL OVER AGAIN. BUT NEVER GIVE UP
HOPE........GOD IS OUR REFUGE AND OUR STRENGTH IN TIMES
OF TROUBLE....JUST BELIEVE!!!!!

DEAREST NATYKIM,
REMIND THE FAMILY THAT THERE IS ALWAYS HOPE! HE MAY
SEEM REALLY BAD NOW, BUT A LOT OF COMA VICTIMS COME BACK. JUST BE REALLY CAREFUL ABOUT WHAT YOU SAY IN FRONT OF HIM THOUGH UNTIL HE COMES OUT OF THE COMA,
BECAUSE HE STILL CAN HEAR YOU BUT MAY NOT BE ABLE TO RESPOND TO THAT. GIVE HIM ALL THE LOVE AND SUPPORT THAT YOU CAN AND COMFORT ONE ANOTHER. THERE IS A
NAME FOR THIS AND IT SOUNDS LIKE ANUERSYM THIS IS WHERE
THE ARTERIES ARE CLOGGED OR BURST LEAVING A BLEED IN THE BRAIN. IT IS UNUSUALLY FOR A YOUNG MAN, BECAUSE IT
USUALLY HAPPENS TO THE ELDERLY. THE AREA OF THE BRAIN
AFFECTED IS THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BRAIN IF ALL OF HIS
SYMPTOMS WERE ON THE LEFT. WHEN HE DOES RECOVER, HE
WILL NEED TO START PHYSICAL, SPEECH, AND OCCUPATIONAL
THERAPY TO RESTORE WHAT HAS BEEN LOST. THIS FOR HIM WILL BE LIKE STARTING OVER AGAIN LEARNING TO TALK, WALK
AND TAKE CARE OF HIMSELF.....BUT THIS TOO WILL PASS.
NEVER GIVE UP HOPE!!!! HOLD FAST TO IT. AND REMEMBER THAT GOD IS OUR REFUGE AND STRENGTH IN TIMES OF TROUBLE.
PRAYER AND COMFORT AND SUPPORT IS THE BEST THING RIGHT
NOW FOR HIM AND FOR THE FAMILY, AND LET GOD WORK TO
BRING THIS SITUATION TO A CLOSE FOR THE GOOD.
