I have had a similar experience. Mine started in January. A lot of the initial symptoms have gone away. How are you doing?

I was at a traffic light and before the light turned green I felt as if both hands and feet where on fire. It was like a bolt of lightning went through me. I had a sinus infection at the time. Everything worked so when the light turned green I went to a family members house and walked a lot until it settled down. Mainly my feet and fingers tingled, with lots of other weird stuff too. Feet and arms felt stiff. Electric bolts at my hips. Stuff like that. Couldn't feel hot/cold, wasn't all that hungry once I started to eat. It also felt like I had shingles on my lower shoulder later the night of the original incident but no rash. One day I had swallowing weirdness and from day one everything tilted to the right until I went to the chiropractor. For three or four weeks I felt fatigue but only when driving and usually early in the morning or night after 9:00 but again only when driving. Feet and hands felt swollen. Brain fog. Double vision.

Now I just have stiff toes and sometimes fingers and lips with a few burning or tingling sensations or a chill that runs up my legs and very dry eyes. But nothing at all like what it was the first three or four weeks. This all comes and goes. It doesn't keep me up at night any more.

My neurologist was not helpful at all. I've seen him for years for migraines. He saw me the day after, told me to come back in six weeks and told me to take an antidepressant that makes you sleepy. When I went back he said I had idiopathic SFN and sent me on my way. No tests no MRI. My GP tested me for all the normal causes of SFN and nothing came back as a possible cause. Every question I asked my neurologist he said "everyone's different" and when I asked him what he was basing his diagnosis on he said 32 years of doing this stuff. I stopped taking the antidepressant a month ago and my double vision went away along with the fatigue after three days.

I have found out it's Acute onset SFN. It may be a variant of Gillian Barre. I'm looking for a new neurologist.

My main question is if the SFN is progressive if it doesn't go away. In the articles I've read it seems it can take up to two years to either resolve completely or steady out.

I've been exercising at least three times a week and eating very clean along with taking vitamins. I go to the chiropractor once a week, too. I'm not diabetic but have occasionally tested as peri so I'm watching my glucose. Trying to follow the ADA guidelines. That's gotten my sugars averaging only in the normal ranges. I've lost 15 lbs.

This has been terrifying quite honestly.

I forgot to ask if you were tested for celiac. That can cause SFN.

Similar symptoms as you- happened suddenly after antrip to disneyland while careyingnmy daugher in my shoulders. At first docs thought it was a pinched nerve but then mris of head, neck, lumbar spine showed nothing. Have dad emg tests done and have all normal results-- neurologist sat it could be anxiety but im doubtful since nothing happened that would cause it. Scarred its the onset of something bad but hoping to findnothers who have some answers/ or have healed. Please keep me posted on how u are doing.

Re: Acute overnight tingling in all limbs so fed up

Sorry haven't been on this board for a while. Yeah my sx fluctuate in intensity - sometimes I get strange burning or stabbing sensations in various places in my body. Sometimes I barely notice the tingling, but it's always there. It's been over a year since the onset of these sx. What worries me is that now my left leg seems to experience some tingling/ weakness that also comes and goes. Afraid it's progressing. So far been to three neurologist who seem dismissive- one suggesting it's "just anxiety." Done three emg tests that came back normal but only one series of mris on head, neck, spine---might push for another series of mris- but currently trying to figure out if too many MRIs close to each other will cause cancer or something, and don't know if insurance would approve of them being only a year apart. I'll post here if anything develops. How are you? Any news or diagnosis?

Re: Acute overnight tingling in all limbs so fed up

Same here except my symptoms are mainly in the bottoms of my feet as well as the top side of my back from time to time and sometimes my hands. It seems to come on out of nowhere. I was 6 wks postpartum when it started and although my feet are so much better than they were (I literally couldn't walk) they still have nerve pain when I stretch a certain way or wear shoes that press on the nerves. I was originally told tarsal tunnel but that doesnt explain the similar pain in my back and the numbness everywhere else. The only abnormal bloodwork result was B6- I had been taking a prenatal at the time. No one seems to know if it was an autoimmune reaction to a virus or pregnancy, b6 toxicity, bad feet or all three. It is so frustrating!
