small fiber neuropathy.

I have small fiber neuropathy. I can't sleep because of the neuropathy. The constant pressure/numbness from lying on the bed causes so much discomfort that I have to be beyond exhausted to sleep.

I take 1800mg of Gabapentin and I also take 60mg of Cymbalta.

I don't want to have to take narcotics to sleep but I'm starting to think that I may have to.

Anyone else have this problem?

Re: small fiber neuropathy.

I have the same thing..just woke again at 4 am from the pain...much worse on my legs, from feet to thighs. It's a desperate feeling dealing with this pain, my arms also heart..its overwhelming at times.

I take Lunesta due to my insomnia and that's a life saver for me because the Gabapentin does not help my pain very much. When I wake up in the middle of the night like today from the pain, I take 1 klonopin with 1200 mg of the Gabapentin to help me go back to sleep.

Re: small fiber neuropathy.

I'm sorry that you have this, too.

I maybe get adequate sleep every other night if I am lucky. Even then it's a toss and turn. Lack of sleep does make a person desperate. I can life with this during the day.

Lunesta is perhaps a possibility for me. Thanks for the idea.

Re: small fiber neuropathy.

I have been on Lunesta for about 4 years and I don't understand why some people refuse to take something that will improve your quality of life. Not sleeping makes everything worse.

Lunesta is a life saver

Wish you well

Re: small fiber neuropathy.

Hi Moiraine-
I also have small fiber neuropathy and the pain you described. An old anti-depressant, TRAZODONE @ 50mg works well for me. One word of caution if you ask your MD for a prescription, "Be sure to be in bed within 20 minutes because it can put me to sleep that fast. My wife has had a lot of difficulty wake me off the couch if I lay down there!"
Best of Luck,
