Talking Feet Miseries

I hope someone out there can help me. I have had burning, tingling,
sensitive feet for over 2 years. Had surgery last November for stenosis
in cervical spine. No help for the feet. Have had the usual workup with
nerve conduction studies, blood tests. All the Neurologist can tell me is that I have peripheral neuropathy of unknown cause. It is a miseable thing to deal with. My feet do not bother me at night, only when I stand or walk a lot.
Can anybody help me with some suggestions?

Thank you.

Re: Feet Miseries

How old are you? Did they check for a nerve entrapment?

I have nerve damage in my left foot from a hern disc. It has been 2 years now. Doc started me on Neurontin about 2 months ago, and it has really helped. I too, only have the pain/tingling/stabbing pain during the day. The Neurontin keeps it at bay. Not 100% of the time, but probably 75%. Vicodin works the other 25%. Have you had your lumbar spine checked? Where is the foot hurt? Mine is the outside of the foot, and it was clasic l5/s1 herniation. We fixed the disc, but the foot pain remains (probably permanent at this point). I hope this helps. Take care, ~Daubie

1/19/04 I am 7 mos post op. I still have the same foot pain as before surgery. Doc agrees it is probably permanent nerve damage. Started neurontin this week. Still glad I had the surgery though!

Daubie,
Thank you for your response. I'm sorry to hear that you are also having to deal with problems with burning, tingling, sensitivity in your feet. It sounds like our problems may be from different sources. Both my feet burn and tingle,
but do not actually hurt. I have had an MRI of my lumbar spine and the NS said it looked OK. Neurontin helps some, but not too much. Lifting seems to make my burning and tingling worse. The burning and tingling are getting worse over time. Don't know where to turn. Appreciate your help and concern.

Re: Feet Miseries

Hi Chalkj. I wonder if perhaps, you have a bulging disc in your lumbar. My disc was originally "just bulging" which the docs don't seem too concerned about. My numbness and tingling (not pain) did begin with the bulge. When the disc herniated was when the pain came. Because you say lifting makes the symptoms worse, I really wonder if this is your case? I would be sooo careful when lifting (avoiding it whenever possible). Just a thought. Take care and good luck! ~Daubie
