Finding footwear - Neuropathy Message Board

I have been referred to a neurologist for my neuropathy that started in my ankle and has moved to both feet now. It is a five week wait for an appointment, only two weeks left to wait! I am on neurotin(200mg) at bedtime which dulls the pain enough to sleep, however during the day I have been reduced to being able to wear only birkenstocks which are fine for my feet, but horrible for my back. I have a bulging disk in my lower back, my neuropathy is sensory so therefore separate from my back problem. I would love to know what others find that work, can't wear shoes at all and I can't work barefoot. I don't have any diabetes, thyroid problem, alcohol abuse, HIV that lead to this, still a mystery to me, help with some advice on footwear would be great..............

I wish I could offer you some advice, but I can't wear shoes either. There's just no way. My feet hurt too much. I'll be watching this topic in case someone has any advice. Good luck to you.

In my experience, people with neuropathic pain usually require over 1000mg/day for adequate control of symptoms. The dose needs to be titrated up slowly due to side effects. Don't be suprised if that's what the neurologist recommends. :-)

I have such pain in both my feet!
I want you to be careful with the Neurontin.
There is a whole class action lawsuit against Pfizer.
Please do the research as I do not want to sway you either way.
I have chosen to live with the pain.

I take 2400mgs of Neurotin a day. If I didn't I wouldn't be able to live. I'm not joking. I don't care about the lawsuit. I thought about it before I started taking it, because I saw the advertisement about an unusually high number of people committing suicide. You know what? People taking Neurotin aren't being treated for a hang nail. They're in terrible pain. People in terrible pain frequently commit suicide. I'll take my chances and get the relief, however small it is. It's not the Neurotin causing people to kill themselves, it's the pain. Just my honest opinion.
