I have an odd issue that I think might be fit to post on this board. It's not a problem--I'm asking just because I'm curious.

Sometimes my husband will playfully hit me, lightly. If he hits me on my upper arms or legs, it hurts like crazy! It feels like I've been hit with a brick! Just a light tap will cause a terrible sore pain.

I've wondered for a while what this might be. Lately I've been reading, and I think I have a few mild autistic traits, but I'm not sure. Could it be a sensory integration thing?

I think that it is worth mentioning to a doctor. But more than that, I think that it is worth talking to someone about the fact that your husband is hitting you in a way that hurts. At very least, ask him to stop. He shouldn't want to cause you pain, and this seems like a small thing to as of him.

Heehee, thanks for the reply--I want to make it clear that hubby is not abusive! He plays around sometimes and he stops when I ask him to. And the taps don't always hurt like that--just sometimes! I was wondering too if it could be water retention. Anyway, I don't know. I guess I'll ask my doc. I just thought it was weird.

I think it is entirely possible that we become "hyper-sensitive to noise, touch, etc. with neuropathy. I find the pitch of children's voices makes my inner ear "zing" and also before diagnosis I would have that same sensation in my legs at times. Loud noises make me almost jump involuntarily, or over-react, who knows, it is a nerve disorder so it makes sense that it alters us in other ways besides pain, sucks don't it?

Hm. I don't know exactly what neuropathy even is. It's just something funky with your nerves, am I correct? Is it something that can get worse?
