| Re: Severe shooting neck pain/facial numbness
You said it's not due to your spine.... I had sudden HORRID shooting pains in my neck and right under the back part of my skull so bad that it caused me to go into muscle spasms some times and I would feel similar to what you explained.... Mine was worse when driving or having to hold my arms out in certain positions. I went to ER 3 times, ear nose & throat specialist, neurologist, etc.. All said I was fine and it was in my head.... After a long time of suffering, I'd went to just about every doc I could think of except for a chiropractor so, I decided to go to one and he found that I had a couple discs in my neck that were way out of place (slipping forward) and he said it was called forward head posture aka: FHP. So, we started treatment and the very first treatment, the pain in my head and neck went away... I couldn't believe it! But the pain would come back after a few hours. He said that it takes a little time to re-train the spine to stay in correct position again so, I had 2 months of treatments, 2 times a week and slowly over that time, my pains didn't come back, my muscle spasms stopped, the numbness I would get in my face and hands stopped. I have to say though, the sharp pains in my head and neck were the worst cause it felt like someone was stabbing me with an ice pick in specific areas and those pains were so bad they were was causing my muscle spasms. He said the way my neck was slipping was putting pressure on some of my nerves. I trust him because he was the ONLY person who helped me and fixed the problem. It's crazy to think a chiropractor of all people... I had CT Scans, x-rays, blood tests, everything you can think of and nothing showed up. To be honest, I'm starting to think all the other doctors I went to only 1/2 way checked out my results because I don't have insurance they wanted to take the quick way out and load me up with antidepressants......
After all the pain I went through and all the doctors and tests... Being told it was in my mind over and over for such a long time took it's toll on me and I did start having anxiety from it all.. Who wouldn't.. when you're in so much pain and can't get any answers or help. It was scarey.... My pain and neck problems are gone but the anxiety is still with me over a year later.
